If you have your own motorhome, you have the luxury of being able to go off on your travels whenever and wherever the fancy takes you. But of course, you also potentially have the worry of breaking down anywhere in the country or Europe for that matter. With this thought in mind you may wish to consider how you may be able to benefit from motorhome breakdown insurance.
Imagine the following scenarios.
- you have taken to the roads and are touring around the UK when suddenly your motorhome is hit from behind causing damage that leaves you stranded. If you have motorhome breakdown insurance included in your policy, the incident typically becomes nothing more than an inconvenience, as you are able to call your insurance provider. Typically the provider pays for a recovery vehicle to tow your motorhome for repairs which means you do not have to pay out of your own pocket once, you have paid the excess on the policy (though do note that policy features and benefits can vary among providers, so always check the small print);
- if your vehicle has to be recovered and repaired the insurance provider may pay out for a stay in alternative accommodation. This means you typically get up to so much per day over so many days whilst your motorhome is being repaired;
- with insurance for breakdown of the motorhome behind you, you have peace of mind wherever you travel in the UK (and in Europe if you have continental cover).
Your policy may include some form of minimum breakdown coverage or your provider may offer to add on motorhome breakdown insurance for an extra charge per month. As the unexpected may occur at any time and there is no way of knowing when, it may make sense to have this form of insurance.
