Everyone likes to get the best deal possible on his or her insurance and when looking to take out touring caravan insurance it is no exception. However jumping into a policy without first checking out the benefits thoroughly may be a very expensive mistake. If you had to make a claim, you may find that you are not covered so taking time to look deeper into what you get for your money may really pay. There are ways you may be able to keep the cost of insurance down to the minimum simply by following a few guidelines. Here are some of the points you might want to consider before applying for your insurance.
- Security is one of the factors that insurance providers take into account when you apply for your caravan insurance. The more secure your caravan is the more savings you may make on your insurance. Therefore, you may want to consider such as a hitchlock for your caravan. A hitchlock helps to prevent someone from unhitching your caravan from your car whilst it is coupled. You might also want to give some thought to installing door and window locks in your caravan. Any of these may help you to get a reduction in the premiums for your insurance policy.
- When you apply for your insurance, there is a minimum amount of excess in the policy. The excess is what you are asked to pay if you have to claim. You are allowed to offer to pay more in excess and this may keep the premiums down, but you have to find this amount as a cash lump sum if you claim, before the provider takes over the rest of the claim.
- If you only use your caravan so many days out of the year, you may want to consider taking out limited mileage touring caravan insurance. Providing you do not go over the agreed amount of miles in one year, you may be able to make savings on your cover.
